Scholarships

It’s simple, there are a lot of individuals (and their families) with disabilities who cannot afford to pay for sports and recreation programs. In fact, few waiver programs, schools, or managed care programs provide an full array of services that fit everyone’s specific needs.

We believe everyone should be able to take a karate course, or go to the gym, or a yoga class and be included alongside their peers. That’s why TxASR is dedicated to raising money  – so that those who can’t find or afford afford to go to an adaptive class – CAN.

We raise money to give scholarships to economically disadvantaged individuals with disabilities. For transparency and to eliminate the potential for conflicts of interests, we use a fully independent vetting and scoring process that ensures those who have the highest level of need for a particular sport or recreation activity can afford the tuition at a member facility. All member facilities and programs agree upon a set tuition fee (often below their standard rate).

In the past two years, we have doubled the amount of money raised and provided scholarships and equipment to participating member programs and facilities!

If you are interested in applying for a scholarship** – please contact us at info@txasr.org for a scholarship application.

**All scholarship recipients have attendance requirements according to their scholarship award. In addition, each recipient is required to volunteer at the facility or program receiving the scholarship or at another disability-focused program. A recipient must be part of the community and give back to the community.  Lastly, scholarship recipients are expected to attend or watch videos to learn about important issues such as healthy living, healthy eating, self-advocacy, financial literacy and disability history.
